The maintenance of Fårö's roads was managed by the land-owning farmers. The distance each was required to maintain was in proportion to the size of the landholding. The maintenance consisted of keeping the roadsides clear of trees and bushes, but above all, the road would be graveled annually. This would be completed by a certain date in the autumn when the sheriff came to inspect the road. The result was then announced from the pulpit in the church. If someone was careless with the maintenance work, they had to be redone.

In the winter, the farmers had the obligation to keep the road open and thereby be responsible for the necessary snow plowing and snow shoveling. Fårö was divided into 11 different plow teams according to an announcement from the national archives in Visby in 1911. Each one consisted of a certain number of neighboring farms. The team had a certain fixed distance to clear snow. Each plow team had its own snow plow which could require up to 8-10 horses to drive. The snow plow is a copy of the snow plow built in 1941 that belonged to the Alnäsa plow team, which was plow team number seven on Fårö. The team consisted of the farms in the Alnäsa neighborhood team. It would be responsible for the plowing of approx. 797 meters of this road, which meant that one would plow from the exit road into the farms up to Nystugu fields next to Bygdegården. When the Swedish Road Administration took over the snow removal, the plow remained lying here in its original place. It was in very poor condition when Anders Ruthström and Sivert Hultqvist made this copy in 2001 with wood donated by Anders Ahlberg at Alnäsa.
