Memory notes - discussion meeting 14/11 2022

Gotland County Council invited on Monday to a discussion meeting to talk to the local population and the neighbors of Norsholmen. The meeting was to open a dialogue on whether any changes in the animal protection area were needed, as complaints have been received, such as noise, unauthorized vehicles, loose dogs, etc.

The meeting began with a presentation of the area from the county board but also from the participants, which gave the county board a clear picture of how important Norsholmen is to all nearby residents. Afterwards, we had to discuss in groups what and how things could be improved and what could not be changed. All agreed that farmers who have livestock grazing in the area should not be affected.

Suggestions given by contributors:

    • New signs for the area, with simple images showing visitors WHAT is protected, several languages and possibly a qr code with more information. However, these signs must not spoil the experience.
    • Better signage that dogs must be on a leash.
    • Solution on driveways, which would prevent unauthorized traffic but would not affect users or emergency services. For example. gate with lock.
    • Parking facilities. Norsholmen currently has no parking and this affects residents in the area. Suggestions for where are welcome.
    • Not to affect domestic fishing.
    • Access to toilet.

All this will now go to the referral round and answers should come in the spring.

This meeting was just a chance for the county board to get suggestions and tips. You can also send this in afterwards, as well as questions if you have them.
