- Join us in preserving a Gotland cultural tradition! –
For almost sixty years, Gotland's nation together with Fårö Täckarlag has organized an annual quilting event on Fårö. As usual, we run the first weekend in August. Welcome to participate!
Gotlands Nation assists the cover party by arranging breakfast, lunch and a feast with dancing at Fårö Bygdegård on Saturday, August 3rd. Friday the 2nd of August we prepare for tomorrow and Sunday the 4th is dedicated to restoring the community center. The weekend is an experience not to be missed and an excellent opportunity to learn more about Gotland and old Gotland traditions.
What is a blanket?
During a roof eating, experts and amateurs gather together to redo a traditional roof, with associated festivities. An "eating" is Gutnish for a working community that works for compensation in the form of food, drink and festivities. This tradition from the old farming community is still alive thanks to Fårö Täckarlag and students of the Gotland nation in Uppsala.
Now it's finally time to start signing up for coverage!
In the link below you will find some information about the trip and a registration form. If there are any questions you can ask me or 1q.
Hope to see you this summer!

What is 'täckating' (roughly "thatching")?
During a 'täckating' both those with experience and amateurs gather to thatch a traditional swamp sawgrass roof, with flowing celebrations. The word "eating" is gutnish and means a group of people who perform a task in exchange for food, drink and a celebratory activity. This tradition from the old farmer society lives on thanks to Fårö's Thatching Team and the students from Gotland's Nation in Uppsala.
