Information meeting - Clearing in Langhammar's nature reserve
The County Administrative Board invites you to an information meeting in Fårö community center on the occasion of a planned major clearing in the Langhammar nature reserve.
In the Langhammar nature reserve in northwestern Fårö, a larger area has grown again over the past 60 years. Therefore, the county administration is planning a larger clearing effort during the winter. As it is a clearly noticeable measure in the area, we would like to be able to answer questions and talk to residents in the area before the clearing starts.
Coffee and sandwiches will be served during the information meeting.
Background
Langhammar's nature reserve is 480 hectares in size and was established in 1931. The reserve has mostly open grazed landscapes with low creeping bushes, alvar lands and rocky beaches. But an area in the south-eastern part of the reserve has grown over the last 60 years and become more of a forest. The overgrowth has had a negative effect on the birds, and the rich birdlife that previously existed on the Langhammarsnäset has declined sharply.
By felling junipers and pines in an area of just over 33 hectares, the peninsula will regain its former character as open coastal moorland, which will hopefully attract shorebirds and other species that previously existed there.
