In a small community on the Icelandic west coast, the strangest things happen. A director gives up everything and starts dreaming in Latin. Kjartan and Kristin cannot subdue their forbidden love even though they live in each other's happy marriages. The young, fragile Jonas is forced to cut his father from the rope he hanged himself from. The Reykjavik of the banking crisis and the little trolls of folk belief are as close, or as far away in a film that with tenderness, humor and romance portrays the people and their great suffering.
