Dampen mill

Dämba kvarn also called Bergman's mill, when it was owned by Ingmar Bergman and is now part of The Bergmangårdarna Foundation. This mill is only available to Bergman scholarship recipients (read more here). The mill has been tastefully converted into a living area with a double bedroom, bathroom and a kitchen that also serves as a living room with a fantastic view of Dämbaträsk and fields.
This mill was also an important scenographic part of the film Bergman Island which was released in 2021.

History:
The mill was built around 1747. It was the two farm parties at Dämba who owned the mill. At the 1807 mill tax assessment, the owners were Lars Jacobsson and Lars Hansson. They estimated a total of 11 people's urge needs.

The owners argued on this occasion that the mill was located in the lee of both buildings and forest and succeeded in persuading the tax assessors to reduce the taxable amount of grinding to 2/3.

Then Ragnar Werkelin and Anna Brogren handed over the mill to a new owner. The mill had then been owned for several generations.

The owners of the other part of the farm were Wilhelm Martin, Esra Werkelin and Ragnar Werkelin.

The mill was in use for a few years into the 1940s and the owners were then Gustav Brogren and Esra Werkelin. A few decades later, the new owner also restored the dilapidated mill building. Under Adolf Kahlström's leadership and professional skill, as well as the participation of several Fårö residents, the mill body was given a new cap, wings and wind spires, and the interior was furnished for leisure accommodation.

There used to be a mill on the site. A pole mill was already built here in the 17th century. In the audit book for Gotland in 1653, you can read that Dämbagården had a windmill and that the owner was Michell Christophersson, who inherited the farm from his parents.
